PACE 2019 March Meeting - Family Engagement Report_final_x.pdf
Background: MPS operates within a family and community engagement framework which includes six standards that provide districtwide support to schools for partnering with families to increase student outcomes. All schools strive to meet these standards in order to provide an equitable standard of care across the district. The framework was developed from a strengths-based approach to build trusting relationships between schools and families.

The six standards are:
(1) Schools are welcoming and culturally relevant environments
(2) Schools are connected to the community
(3) Schools have tools and knowledge needed to build relationships with families and the community
(4) Families have avenues to serve as leaders
(5) Families have opportunities to build peer networks
(6) Families have tools and knowledge needed to be active in their child’s education.

This report provides an update on the work currently being done relative to standards 5 and 6.

-The District Advisory Council (DAC) and the Families and Schools Together (FAST )program are both examples of on-going efforts aligned to these two standards.
-The DAC was developed to ensure MPS families have a voice in district decision-making. In January, the DAC meeting topics were shared. This month, DAC attendance is provided to highlight the number of family members, community members and schools represented across the district.
-The FAST program is a nationally recognized, research-based program which has been implemented in the following five MPS schools: Auer Avenue Community School, Brown Street Academy, Engleburg, Hopkins-Lloyd Community School and Keefe Avenue School.
-Since 2018, the FAST program, in partnership with the Department of Strategic Partnerships and Customer Service, graduated fifty-two families in total.
-The FAST program is funded through the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families.
