Background:

On January 22, 2019, the Office of Board Governance received the attached communication from eight students from Riverside University High School, Audubon Technology and Communication Center, and Bay View High School requesting a hearing regarding Administrative Policy 8.51, Electronic Communication Devices.
This item is being presented for referral in accordance with Board Rule 1.10, which requires that all communications be referred, without action, either to the appropriate committee for consideration or to the Superintendent in an attempt to settle the matter at issue without formal board action.

Implementation and Assessment Plan

Upon referral by the Board, the Office of Board Governance will notify the communicants of the disposition of their communication.
If the Board refers the communication to committee, the Office of Board Governance will work with the chair of the appropriate committee to schedule a hearing. The Office of Board Governance will notify the communicants when their communication has been scheduled for hearing.
If the Board refers the communication to the Superintendent, the Office of Board Governance will so inform the communicants. In accordance with Board Rule 1.10, the Superintendent will have 30 days in which to resolve the issue.
