Background: Building trades workers employed at the Department of Facilities and Maintenance Services have historically been paid the prevailing wages, pursuant to the action of the Board on May 3, 1931 (Proc. pp. 555-556). This policy was incorporated in Section 2.32 of the Board’s Rules (currently Administrative Policy 6.21) and was further affirmed by the Board in December 1962 (Proc. 12-11-62, pp. 301-302; 12-19-62, pp. 303-304). Building trades workers employed at the Department of Facilities and Maintenance Services last received the prevailing wage rates effective July 2016.

Based on the need to remain competitive in the current market for Building Trades, Administration recommends that the Board move forward with an updated prevailing wage structure for this unit.
Fiscal Impact Statement: The district will incur costs by paying covered employees the wages as proposed in this item. These positions and salaries were allocated for in the Department of Facilities and Maintenance Services budget as approved by the Board for FY18.
Implementation and Assessment Plan Upon approval by the Board, the new wage rates will be implemented as required.
Recommendation: Your Committee recommends that the Board approve the prevailing wage rates as provided in the attachments, effective as of July 1, 2017.
