Background: Section 121.85(3) of the Wisconsin Statutes allows the Board to enter into annual written Inter-district transfer agreements with school districts for the purpose of reducing racial imbalance.

In April 2017, the Administration mailed to each suburban district the appropriate version (I or II) of the 2017-2018 Inter-district Transfer Agreement with a request that the agreement be signed by the respective board president and returned to the Milwaukee Public Schools. (Version I agreement -Milwaukee Public Schools will be responsible for the transportation of inter-district transfer students. Version II agreement - Milwaukee Public Schools will provide the District with the funds for transportation services). A copy of each agreement is included in the attachment.

As of July 2017, the 21 participating suburban districts have returned the 2017-2018 Inter-district Transfer Agreement signed by their board presidents.

The Administration is requesting authorization to enter into contracts with the suburban districts specified in the attachments to provide transportation services for students participating in the Inter-District Transfer Program (Chapter 220).
