Background:
At its meeting on July 26, 2018, Resolution 1819R-004 by Directors Miller, Harris, Phillips and Voss regarding Montessori Strategic Plan (MPSMSP) was referred to the Committee on Student Achievement and School Innovation.

The Administration is in agreement with the intent of the resolution with minor adjustments to allow for inclusive and broad participation throughout the district. To accomplish this, the Administration will lead efforts to develop a council structure similar to the District Multicultural Multilingual Advisory Committee. To achieve this, the council will include district, community and principal representation from all MPS Montessori schools. The opportunity to participate will be shared with stakeholders using various methods including during the October 15-18, 2018 Parent Teacher Conferences. Once the District-established MPS Montessori Strategic Plan Advisory Committee has been established, the work will begin on the MPS Montessori Strategic Plan to include long- and short-term planning.

Fiscal Impact Statement:
This item does not authorize expenditures. Any costs associated with implementing the resolution will be brought back to the Board for consideration and approval.
Implementation and Assessment Plan:
Upon approval by the Board, the Administration will move forward with forming the MPS Montessori Strategic Plan Advisory Committee so that work can begin on developing the MPS Montessori Strategic Plan in a collaborative manner inclusive of all stakeholders and aligned to district goals and the five priorities for success.
Recommendation
The Administration recommends that the Board adopt Resolution 1819R-004 by Directors Miller, Harris, Phillips and Voss regarding Montessori education as amended in the attached document.
